KAHEA organizes Mālama Kai Hohonu Seabed Mining Symposium

Last month, KAHEA hosted Mālama Kai Hohonu, a one-day symposium on deep seabed mining in the Pacific.  The event featured guest speakers from development, scientific, legal, marine conservation, and indigenous communities. The audience also consisted of people representing these diverse interests.   After the different presentations, KAHEA facilitated break-out sessions to give all conference participants the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with this issue.  The KAHEA team and local deep seabed mining Working Group will use the information gathered from Mālama Kai Hohonu to develop a white paper for widespread dissemination to relevant stakeholders.  KAHEA will also be adding a new section on deep seabed mining to its website.  Keep checking back for videos of the conference, a list of resources about deep seabed mining, and more!
